Free Tax Preparation

Volunteers are available at the library every Thursday until April 10.  This is a free service but you will need to bring the following items:

  • Last year’s return
  • Social Security card or other official documentation for yourself and all dependents
  • Checkbook if you want to direct deposit any refund
  • W-2 from employer
  • Unemployment compensation statements
  • SSA 1099 or Form RRB-1099, Tier 1 Railroad Retirement Benefits
  • All 1099 INT, 1099 DIV, 1099B, as well as documentation showing the original purchase price of your sold assets
  • 1099 R forms if you receive a pension
  • 1099 Misc showing any miscellaneous income

If you choose to itemize your deductions rather than using the standard deduction, you will need to bring the following:

  • 1098 form showing home mortgage interest
  • Receipts for charitable contributions
  • Receipts or cancelled checks for medical/dental expenses
  • Receipts for all income or property taxes you paid as well as records for all tax refunds
  • Dependent care provider information (name, employer ID, or Social Security number)
  • Receipts, cancelled checks, or 1099 forms related to continuing education

We can also complete your state returns for Illinois or Missouri.  All returns are E-filed.
