Patron Access Computer Use

 

To use a computer at the Wood River Library; you MUST have and use YOUR own library card. Using another person's library card is a form of identity theft. Computers are on a first come first serve basis. If all patron computers are in use, the staff has the ability to make a reservation for a computer at a later time. We have FREE Wi-Fi internet access during regular business hours. You may use your laptop computers, PDA's, or any other wireless internet ready device inside of our Internet Cafe area.

 

Computer Use Policy:
By using a public Internet workstation / computer at the Wood River Public Library you agree to the following guidelines:

Library Card:
Any user must have a valid library card, including minors and their parent/legal guardians.

Minor’s Use:
If you are a minor (under 18 years old) your parent or legal guardian must sign an Internet Usage consent form.

Time Limits:
There are time limits on computer use per day; the limit may vary according to location, and level of demand.

Downloading:
You may download to your own USB flash drive. The library is not responsible for any loss or damage to personal disk drives.

Copies:
All copies, including mistakes, shall be paid for at the current library charge.

E-Mail:
The library does not offer electronic mail accounts.  You may make an e-mail account through any free e-mail vendor of your choice.  The Library does not have any affiliations with any of these companies.

 

You May Not:
Use the library’s workstations as a staging ground to gain unauthorized access to the library’s networks or computer systems or to any other network or computer system.

Obstruct the work of others by consuming gratuitously large amounts of system resources or by deliberately crashing any library computer system.

Make any attempt to damage computer equipment or software.

Make any attempt to alter software configurations in a malicious manner.  If configurations must be changed, ask permission of library staff.

Make any attempt to cause degradation of system performance.

Engage in any activity which is deliberately and maliciously offensive, libelous, or slanderous.

Display text or graphics which are obscene or which may reasonably be construed by library staff as offensive to the public.

Display text or graphics which prevent other patrons from reasonably using the library or prevent library staff from performing their duties.

Share information about others of a personal nature (name, address, phone number, social security #, etc.).

Transmit or receive any offensive or threatening material.

You may not intentionally view any materials deemed as pornographic.  If you are found on anything deemed as pornographic material, you will be banned from the library for 6 (six) months from the date of the incident.


The Wood River Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content.  As with other library materials, restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian.  While direct parental supervision of a child’s Internet use is recommended, it is not required provided the parent/legal guardian gives his/her consent.

ILLEGAL ACTS INVOLVING LIBRARY RESOURCES MAY BE SUBJECT TO PROSECUTION BY LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL OFFICIALS.

The library reserves the right to terminate acomputer session at any time.
